The episode introduced the Simming problem, as Iain Banks calls it, where a simulation is so detailed it becomes real enough. Sci-fi has been chewing on these concepts for decades. Omg this episode was sooooooooo good. I absolutely loved the ending, although it had such a dark element to it which really surprised me! And that cheeky unexpected ending too.

This season of Doctor Who is very calm and quiet. A far cry from the Tennant days, ok, he was hyperactive, but even with Clara/Capaldi there was more nerve on screen. Matt Smith also had that physical energy, very animated. Now, Capaldi is calm, Bill is rather quiet and wide-eyed, it’s all so serene. Don’t get me wrong, I like it. Rather weird episode. Bill was fine, the mere fact that we finally have a genre savvy sci-fi companion is great. She literally said, you think I don’t know a mind wipe when I see one?
