Tor is a system of anonymous connections using layers around a data packet, sort of like an onion. At each hop, one layer gets removed and every relay server knows only the address of the next one, making it nearly impossible to ascertain the full path. Bitcoin along with Tor provides extra security and anonymity, while also helping avoid local laws that might attempt to restrict its use.
